| spa |
| dc.description.abstract | The understanding of tourism as a system of collaborative relationships between companies cannot lose sight of the need to keep relationships as stable as possible over time. From an economic perspective, cooperation is an alternative to market transactions when agents make discretionary exchange agreements to jointly improve their performance and competitiveness; however, the results can overlap with the appearance of inappropriate behaviors. For this reason, transaction costs become a lens of interest that could explain the dynamics of simultaneous collaborative and competitive relationships in the tourism sector. In this way, the article aims to theoretically review the contributions from transaction cost economics, to understand the relationships between organizations that make up tourism; which led to adopting a qualitative documentary methodology, as a conceptual interpretive study, compiling the main theoretical contributions and evidencing the confirmation and juxtaposition of these postulates in empirical research rescued from relevant databases. The main findings revealed that organizations opt for a vertical integration government when the tourism system cooperates under the support of an institutional framework. Likewise, tourism systems constitute a hybrid form of governance. Part of the transactions are left to the market (mediated by word and trust), while the other part is translated into guarantee contracts, mainly when there are idiosyncratic assets that generate opportunistic behaviors. | eng |
