The oil industry requires continuous operations that rely on rotating shifts and extended working hours to ensure energy supply and operational continuity. However, these work schedules may have adverse effects on workers’ physical and mental health, as well as on their job performance. The objective of this study was to analyze the association between prolonged rotating shifts, workers’ health, and job performance among operational personnel at the Tocancipá station of CENIT and to propose strategies aimed at occupational fatigue management. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach with a descriptive-correlational scope and a non-experimental design. The sample consisted of 20 operational workers selected through probabilistic sampling for finite populations. Data were obtained through a structured survey and complemented with organizational indicators provided by CENIT, including occupational health diagnoses, absenteeism records, and information related to fatigue management. The results showed a very strong positive correlation between occupational fatigue and impaired concentration (ρ = 0.868), a strong correlation between fatigue and decreased job performance (ρ = 0.680), and a moderate correlation between fatigue and safe decision-making (ρ = 0.422). Triangulation with organizational information supported these findings by identifying 1,315 sick-leave events, 8,745 workdays lost due to absenteeism, 219 cases associated with mental and behavioral disorders, and 200 cases related to musculoskeletal diseases. In addition,, health assessments indicated that 69% of the evaluated population was overweight or obese, while 48% did not perform regular physical activity. The findings indicated thar occupational fatigue is a multifactorial phenomenon that affects critical variables related to performance, concentration, and operational safety. Based on these results, a comprehensive fatigue management program was proposed, emphazing strategies related to sleep hygiene, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, active breaks, and monitoring of workers’ alertness.eng
