Calidad, cantidad y variedad alimentaria: ¿cómo influye el nivel socioeconómico?

Abstract

En la actualidad, el panorama colombiano respecto al consumo alimentario se desarrolla en torno al aumento considerable del gusto por la comida chatarra y las bebidas artificiales, así como la insuficiencia de fibra dietética, la excesiva predilección por carnes rojas y sus derivados, y, entre otros, el deficiente consumo de alimentos de origen vegetal (Évora & Lantero, 2020: 3-4). En este sentido, mediante la aplicación de encuestas, se recurrió a la recolección de datos para determinar el papel que juega el nivel de ingresos de las familias con respecto a sus hábitos de consumo. Así pues, se llegó a la conclusión de que, si bien la desigualdad económica y social del país sí determina la cantidad, calidad, y variedad de alimentos a los que una familia puede acceder, no es el único factor determinante, puesto que se deben considerar también el tamaño de las familias y el conocimiento sobre la alimentación saludable.

Nowadays, the Colombian panorama regarding food consumption is developed around the considerable increase in the taste for junk food and artificial drinks, as well as the insufficient dietary fiber, the excessive predilection for red meat and its derivatives, and, among others, the deficient consumption of foods of vegetable origin (Évora & Lantero, 2020: 3-4). In this sense, through the application of surveys, data collection was used to determine the role played by the income level of families with respect to their consumption habits. Thus, it was concluded that, although the economic and social inequality of the country does determine the quantity, quality, and variety of food that a family can access, it is not the only determining factor, since they must be also consider family size and knowledge about healthy eating.
