La sostenibilidad financiera en salud se refiere a la capacidad de un sistema de salud para mantener y financiar sus operaciones a lo largo del tiempo sin comprometer su eficacia, calidad o equidad. Esto implica asegurar que los recursos financieros disponibles sean suficientes para cubrir las necesidades actuales y futuras de la población, mientras se gestiona eficientemente el gasto y se buscan fuentes de financiamiento estables. Este reto, no solamente es competencia del Sistema General de Seguridad Social en Salud, el Ministerio de Salud y Protección Social, sino también es un reto que deben afrontar y superar día a día las instituciones prestadoras de servicios de Salud (IPS), logrando acceder a una sostenibilidad financiera en salud desde enfoque integral que combine financiamiento adecuado, eficiencia en el gasto, acceso equitativo, buena gobernanza y capacidad de adaptación. Los adaptándose a la evolución continúa del sistema de salud para enfrentar los desafíos actuales y futuros, garantizando así su capacidad para proporcionar servicios de salud de alta calidad a toda la población

Financial sustainability in health refers to the ability of a health system to maintain and finance its operations over time without compromising its effectiveness, quality or equity. This involves ensuring that the available financial resources are sufficient to cover the current and future needs of the population, while efficiently managing spending and seeking stable sources of financing. This challenge is not only the responsibility of the General Health Social Security System, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, but it is also a challenge that the institutions providing Health services (IPS) must face and overcome every day, achieving access to financial sustainability in health from a comprehensive approach that combines adequate financing, spending efficiency, equitable access, good governance and adaptive capacity. Adapting to the continuous evolution of the health system to face current and future challenges, thus guaranteeing its ability to provide high-quality health services to the entire population.
