This undergraduate thesis presents a professional consultancy project for Cummins de los Andes, focused on designing an innovative business model that integrates battery energy storage (BESS) technology into its backup power projects. The initiative arises in response to growing environmental, regulatory, and market challenges within the context of a global energy transition toward more sustainable solutions. The study begins with a strategic analysis of the Colombian energy landscape, highlighting the need to modernize the business models of traditional companies like Cummins de los Andes by incorporating technological solutions that reduce emissions, optimize costs, and improve operational efficiency. A comprehensive analysis of the institutional and regulatory framework, as well as BESS systems, is conducted, demonstrating how these technologies reduce dependence on fossil fuels, generate savings, and offer a more sustainable model for companies that implement them. Additionally, Cummins' positioning is validated against its competitors, such as Enel and Celsia, and strategic opportunities in industrial and residential sectors that could benefit the company are identified. New business model. Methodologically, a consultative approach is structured to integrate technical, environmental, financial, and market variables to assess the viability of the proposed model. The document validates the relevance of moving toward sustainable energy solutions, proposing a roadmap for Cummins to strengthen its leadership in the Colombian market, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and responding to new demands. The document concludes by highlighting the relevance and opportunity of moving toward sustainable energy solutions and presents a strategic roadmap that will allow Cummins de los Andes to strengthen its leadership and competitiveness in the Colombian market, align with the Sustainable Development Goals, and respond effectively to the new demands of consumers, regulators, and the competitive environment.
